Small business basics seminars set for January

FREMONT - The Ohio Small Business Development Center at Terra State Community College is offering free, three-hour seminars, “Small Business Basics,” that will answer questions about starting, buying or expanding a small business.

This seminar will take the confusion out of your efforts and help you avoid costly mistakes and unnecessary steps. Learn the basics of name registration, licensing, taxes, zoning, business entities, employees, insurance, financing and business planning.

The January class will be at Terra State Community College, 2830 Napoleon Road, Doepker Leadership and Entrepreneurial Center, Building B, Room 103. Classes are 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 4 and 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 18.

These events are free and open to the public.

Cedar Point Sports Center to host Jingle Bell Jam

SANDUSKY - At Cedar Point Sports Center, the week between Christmas and New Year’s will be bustling with high school basketball. After the success from the 2021 event, which saw 13 games over two days, the CPSC staff decided to double the size of the event in 2022.

Jingle Bell Jam will take place at CPSC from Dec. 27 through Dec. 30. Over the four days there will be 24 games with 40 programs represented, including Fremont Ross High School. This year’s Jingle Bell Jam will feature a high level of competition and talent based on the teams participating.

Appointments available for winter heating assistance

FREMONT - Scheduling for Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP) emergency winter heating assistance appointments will be available through the final week of December between the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The GLCAP Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program (EHEAP) helps residents of Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca, and Wood counties who have received a gas or electric disconnect notice or have already had utilities disconnected. The program can also assist those who are facing a shortage of bulk fuel such as wood, propane, or fuel oil, or need new or transferred service with a utility company.

In-person appointments are available 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 27 to Dec. 29, at GLCAP Headquarters, 127 S. Front St. and GLCAP Family Development Center, 801 Kirk St., Fostoria. Appointments will also be available 8:30 a.m.-to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 28 and Dec. 29, at the GLCAP Jordan Family Development Center in Bowling Green.
