Commissioners appoint four to Building Code Advisory Committee

FREMONT — The Sandusky County Commissioners are not considering residential code. The Building Code Office was set up for Commercial and Industrial purposes.

The Building Code Advisory Committee had four open seats to fill. Letters of interest were accepted in December 2021 for these open seats. The Advisory Committee received the letters and, after reviewing the letters and interviewing the individuals, made their recommendations to the Board of Commissioners.

The Sandusky County Commissioners have appointed four new members: Dean Schneider, Rich Farmer, Bruce Hirt and Barb Bristley. Schneider, Farmer and Hirt will be appointed to four-year terms expiring Jan. 6, 2026. Bristley was appointed to the remaining term of Bob Kusmer expiring Jan. 6, 2023.

The Building Code Advisory Committee was formed to work with the Chief Inspector to develop procedures and adjust fees if necessary and make recommendations to the Chief Inspector to provide the best service for Sandusky County. The Chief Inspector presents recommendations discussed with the Committee to the Board of Commissioners for approvals.

Troop 339 to conduct newspaper drive

FREMONT — St. Ann's Scout Troop 339 will hold a magazine and newspaper drive Saturday and Sunday , at St. Ann's Church parking lot, West State Street at Rawson Avenue.

The Scouts will be loading the newspapers and magazines from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. until noon, Sunday. Christmas catalog can also be included with the magazines. The magazines need to be kept separate from the newspapers.

Twenty percent of the proceeds from all their paper drives this year will again be donated to Food for the Poor.

Any boy between the ages of 11 and 17 interested in joining the troop may call Denny Setzler, Scoutmaster, at 419-332-2318.

Fremont school board calls special meeting

FREMONT — The Fremont City Board of Education will hold a special board meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday Feb. 3 at the Fremont City Schools Administration Building in the Superintendent's Conference Room, 500 W. State St., Suite A. The purpose of the meeting is a work session on strategic planning.

Port Clinton Schools to hold Military Appreciation Night on Friday

PORT CLINTON — Port Clinton Middle School Builder’s Club and Student Council are organizing Military Appreciation Night.

All members, past and present, of the United States military are invited to the Port Clint High School's home boys basketball game on Friday

PCHS will take on Huron on Friday with the JV game beginning at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity game. All members of the military, currently serving and those who have served, will be admitted free with a valid military identification.

PCMS student organizations will provide a coupon for the concession stand at the welcome area by the cafeteria. There will be a special tribute to the military personnel in attendance before the start of the varsity game please arrive by 6:30 p.m.
