Barktoberfest to benefit Ottawa County humane society

MARBLEHEAD — The Wine Room at Mutach's is holding Barktoberfest, a fundraiser for the Humane Society of Ottawa County, from 6 to 9 p.m Oct. 19. There will be beer tasting by the Thirsty Dog Brewery, with German food and treats provided. There will be live music provided for entertainment.

Tickets are $30 and available at Mutach's Wine Bar and Mutach's Market, 8037 E. Harbor Road, Marblehead and at the Humane Society, 2424 E. Sand Road, Port Clinton. The humane society office is open Tuesday and Thursday from10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday from noon to 5 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are limited.

Black Swamp Conservancy to host concert series

PORT CLINTON — Black Swamp Conservancy is hosting a new outdoor concert series at its Dr. Robert L. Nehls Memorial Nature Preserve, 4400 East Muggy Road, Catawba Island.The 2:30 p.m. Oct. 2 concert features the nuanced textures of the two-person ensemble, Warren and Flick. Using both original material and arranged standards from many genres, this ensemble finds new depth in the simplicity of a duo. Jacob Warren plays double bass, while Grant Flick plays violin, tenor guitar and nyckelharpa.Tickets are $20 for this last concert of the series. Children ages 10 and under are free with an adult ticket purchase. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket/chair and cooler to enjoy live music and Lake Erie’s scenic West Harbor. Hayes center to host escape room

FREMONT — It’s President Rutherford B. Hayes’ 200th birthday, and First Lady Lucy Hayes has hidden his present.

President Hayes has 30 minutes to find it, and he needs your help. Lucy left clues inspired by the presidential history her husband knows and loves, along with a few surprises.

With the president busy in meetings all day, it is up to your team to uncover the clues and find this gift.

The escape room is offered at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, and at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1. Tickets are $10 for nonmembers and $8 for Hayes Presidential members. Each session is limited to eight people.
