A husband and wife were killed in a wrong-way crash over the weekend that police allege was caused by an intoxicated driver in Fort Worth, Texas.

On Dec. 3, the couple was heading west on I-30 when they took the Chisholm Trail Parkway exit and were hit by an eastbound car in the westbound lanes, a Fort Worth police spokesperson said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.

The victims, who were both pronounced dead, have been identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as 35-year-old Kristen Huddleston and 42-year-old Jared Huddleston, according to CBS News, as well as local stations WFAA and KXAS-TV.

The suspected wrong-way driver, 27-year-old Andrew Adamson, was taken to a hospital for treatment, where police say they have secured a search warrant for his blood. Police have since charged Adamson with two counts of intoxication manslaughter. It’s unclear if he has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.

Police said the case will be presented to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.

Kristen’s father, Rafael Ortiz, told WFAA that the couple were newlyweds and had recently moved to Texas to start their life together.

“That growing process was great to see, and it was snatched away,” Ortiz said, per the outlet. “It’s hard. "It still doesn’t seem real. I just spoke to her four, five hours before.”

According to WFAA, Ortiz added that the Huddlestons are survived by their children and were both former marines.

The couple’s loved ones have started a GoFundMe campaign following their deaths.

"Kristen Huddleston and her husband Jae (Jared) Huddleston were involved in a fatal head on collision that occurred by a driver traveling the wrong way on the freeway," the fundraiser organizer, Elizabeth Phillips, wrote.

The fundraiser states Kristen was a mother of two girls.

“Kristen was a young, vibrant 35-year-old woman who had the most contagious laugh and thrived to make the people around her smile and giggle along,” Phillips added. “Kristen was a beacon in many people's storms, so please, let’s rally around her family and be the beacon for them in this very difficult time.”
