When newlywed Patrick Mahomes rocked jorts in the desert: Coachella fashion flashback

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are expected to attend the Coachella music festival in California this weekend — not the first time either has gone but still a rare chance to see them together in public.

And this calls to mind another Kansas City power couple that made a splash when they attended Coachella in 2022, the month after they got married in Hawaii.

Patrick Mahomes rocked jorts in the desert, because he could.

It’s good to be king.

Coachella fashion is just as important as the music. Some people spend months planning what to wear those two weekends. The fashion pays homage to specific styles. Hippie. Native American. Bohemian. Southwestern. Cowboy culture.

Homage to Dad’s jean shorts? Not so much.

You’ll see feathers, fringe, beads, cowboy boots and hats and lots of bare skin. Desert, after all.

And oh, the hair. In 2016 Swift showed up in the new short platinum blond “Bleachella” shag she had acquired for a Vogue photo shoot. (Hmmm. Is that why Brittany is suddenly a redhead?)

In April 2022 Brittany posted photos of herself and Patrick at Coachella. Entertainment magazines reported that Kelce, who had been a groomsman at the wedding, was there too with his then-girlfriend Kayla Nicole, who was a bridesmaid.

“Hello Coachella,” Brittany wrote.

They didn’t exactly disappear into the crowd, considering that their wedding photos had just been plastered in every entertainment magazine and tabloid on the planet. And Patrick was already a Super Bowl-winning QB at that point.

“Imagine enjoying a Coachella show, and then BAM the king and queen of KC just standing next to you. I would die!” a fan named Kenzie wrote on Brittany’s Instagram post.

Brittany wore white cowboy boots in one of her Coachella outfits that year, a two-piece lacey look that screamed bridal.

In another look she wore head-banging black in a short fishnet dress and black boots.

“I was just there for the hair & makeup vibe,” she wrote on Instagram.

Freedom of movement is key at Coachella because the dancing is nonstop, especially for someone like Kelce who “broke out a few of my best dance moves” at the festival in 2022, though he promised to save “my best ones for the end zone,” he wrote on Instagram that year.

Anyone who has seen him dance knows that his moves can get a little chaotic, as they did at Coachella when he bumped heads with Mahomes.

“Got into the vibe (my bad Pat),” Kelce joked on Instagram.

Considering some of the moves Swift has busted out at Coachella, may we suggest helmets?
