The Apple Watch SE, one of two new smart watches Apple released September, is $229.99 on Amazon. The $39 discount comes in the form of a coupon available on the SE’s product page. It’s surprising to see any deal on the Apple Watch SE given how new it is.
The SE shares a lot of the core features as the higher-end Series 6: It has the same processor, the same sized screen, a “swim proof” water resistant design, the same 18ish hour battery, and access to all the same third-party apps and software features. It doesn’t have the same always-on display as the Series 6, and can’t take your Blood Oxygen level, but those are nice extras that won’t water down the experience of using an Apple Watch.
As a fitness device, the Apple Watch SE stacks up nicely against the Fitbit. It can track your steps taken, calories burned, heart rate, and sleep. Its heart rate sensor can detect abnormalities like atrial fibrillation, but Apple is clear that the Apple Watch SE is not a medical device, and won’t give you a formal diagnosis. Instead, the data it collects will be stored in Apple’s Health app, so can show it to a doctor.
The Apple Watch SE can help reduce the number of times you check your phone by displaying all of your notifications. You can use the SE to send or reply to texts, or take and place via Siri, Apple’s smart assistant. Siri can be accessed by raising the watch toward your face, pressing the digital crown, or saying “Hey Siri.” Having a smart assistant on your wrist can further reduce the number of times you pick up your phone.
If you’ve never had a smart watch before, and own an iPhone, the Apple Watch SE is the right choice for you. It’s fast, long-lasting, smart, and durable. This $39 discount probably won’t last long, so you should pick it up now.
