It's hard to believe it's been 30 years since Michael Bolton's Grammy-winning cover of "When a Man Loves a Woman" launched Bolton into the stratosphere of stardom. That album, Time, Love & Tenderness, went 8x platinum!

Michael Bolton means many things to many people. Soulful pop-rock aficionados recognize him as the voice behind "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You." For '70s metal fans remember him as former frontman of rock band Blackwater (an underrated band, I might add). And for a much younger audience, he's the voice of Tiger in the animated film Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.

Cult movie lovers will no doubt associate Bolton with the best running joke in the now-classic comedy Office Space. And if you love Pirates of the Caribbean, then surely you've heard Bolton and comedy trio The Lonely Island tell the tale of Captain Jack Sparrow with their Grammy-nominated comedy track.

It's this recent surprise turn as a comedic performer, including Netflix comedy special Michael Bolton's Big, Sexy Valentine's Day Special, that led to his latest reinvention: dating show host. Alongside Zooey Deschanel, the two Emmy-nominees anchor ABC's newest revamp of the 1960s classic The Dating Game, now featuring famous singles — The Celebrity Dating Game.

The man does a bit of everything, including advice-giving. Bolton recently chatted up Yahoo Life to share the products he's been loving lately, from his water of choice to his favorite detergent pods.

Most of us picked up a new skill during quarantine; Bolton's new hobby? Laundry. Lockdown meant the globetrotting superstar had to wash his own skivvies — but Tide Pods made it easy.

"I needed to learn how to do my laundry because no one was going to come in here and do it," he shared.

Gone is the intimidation of measuring cups and the exact science of detergent amounts. Simply pop a pod in the machine and you'll have fresh, clean clothes and plenty of free time to pen more chart-topping hits. (OK, that last part may just apply to Bolton.)

As The Lonely Island said at the end of their hit "Jack Sparrow": "It turns out Michael Bolton is a major cinephile." That love of movies extends to Robert Zemeckis's 2000 classic Cast Away. Feeling the strains of quarantine isolation, he paid tribute to the film with his very own Wilson.

"I had one good friend the entire time [of quarantine]," Bolton revealed. "That is my version of Wilson."

The original Wilson was a volleyball, but Bolton turned to his classic Spalding street basketball. Bolton has always been athletic, even besting Michael Jordan in a charity softball game in 1993 — so it stands to reason he'd have the official game ball of the NBA on hand for pick-up games and pop culture prop comedy.

"Now I know what Tom Hanks was experiencing when he was yelling 'Wilson!'" Bolton joked.

Fiji Water

One of the most remarkable things about the last four decades of Bolton's career is how consistent his voice has remained over all this time, still able to hit every note of songs like "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You" with as much power and clarity in 2017's Michael Bolton's Big, Sexy Valentine's Day Special as he did on 1989's Soul Provider.

A number of factors go into how singers preserve their vocal cords, but one universal truth is this: hydration is key. In fact, if your only concert venue is your shower, drinking enough water is an important way to stay healthy. And when it comes to bottled water, Bolton's go-to is the unique shape and smooth taste of Fiji Water. Bolton has been a devotee of the artesian bottled water brand for years and finds it to be the "purest-tasting" option.

The Hunger was Bolton's breakthrough album in 1987. And during quarantine, when Bolton got hungry, he had to get creative. Thankfully, his music career recently helped him get confident in the kitchen.

"I was approached by the people at Panera about doing a commercial for this delicious food," Bolton says of the recent ad which found him reworking "When a Man Loves a Woman" as an ode to the newest variety of Panera's popular mac and cheese bowls. Now available in an easy microwavable option (minus the broccoli), the tasty, meat-free dish is perfect for Bolton, who's been a health-conscious vegetarian for over 50 years.

Like many artists, Bolton is no stranger to late nights in the studio — which means sleep can often feel like a luxury.

"My manager got me some Calm Magnesium, which actually surprisingly really worked with me," he shared. "Since I started making music, I was working until three or four in the morning and sleeping through the night is really necessary to have full voice. So I tried this ... and it works."

The powder (which comes in a delicious raspberry-lemon blend as well as lemon, orange and cherry) is super easy to use: Just add half a teaspoon to a cup of water a day, let it fizz, and drink. You can gradually up your dose to two teaspoons.
