Netflix Releases ‘Masters of the Universe: Revelation’ Teaser (TV News Roundup)

Netflix released a teaser for “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,” premiering on July 23 with its first five episodes.

The action-packed animated series picks up where the iconic “Masters of the Universe” characters left off decades ago. After a battle between He-Man and Skeletor, Eternia is fractured and the Guardians of Grayskull have dispersed, leaving Teela to reunite the broken band of heroes, solve the mystery of the missing Sword of Power and save the universe.

An aftershow hosted by showrunner and executive producer Kevin Smith, executive producer and Mattel’s vice president of content creative Rob David and actor Tiffany Smith, will also premiere alongside the first part of the series.

The 25-minute special will include appearances from cast members Mark Hamill, Chris Wood, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Lena Headey, Tiffany Smith, Henry Rollins, Griffin Newman, Jason Mewes and Alan Oppenheimer.

“Masters of the Universe: Revelation” is executive produced by Smith, David, Frederic Soulie, Adam Bonnett and Christopher Keenan, produced by Susan Corbin and written by Marc Bernardin, Eric Carrasco, Diya Mishra and Tim Sheridan. Bear McCreary composes, and Mattel produces with Powerhouse Animation as the animation studio.

CASTING

HBO comedy series “Somebody Somewhere” officially kicked off production and expanded its cast with series regulars Jeff Hiller, Mary Catherine Garrison, Danny McCarthy and Mike Hagerty and recurring cast members Murray Hill and Jon Hudson Odom. The series stars Bridget Everett as Sam, a Kansan struggling to fit her hometown mold and finds solace in singing, which leads her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders. Everett is an executive producer alongside Hannah Bos, Paul Thureen, Jay Duplass, Mark Duplass, Mel Eslyn, Carolyn Strauss, Patricia Green and Tyler Romary.

Never Have I Ever” will return to Netflix with its second season on July 15. From co-creators Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher, the coming-of-age comedy stars Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Devi, an Indian American teenager growing up in Sherman Oaks, Calif. who deals with the everyday pressures of high school and drama at home, while also navigating new romantic relationships. The cast also includes Darren Barnet, Jaren Lewison, Lee Rodriguez, Ramona Young, Poorna Jagannathan, Richa Moorjani and Megan Suri. It is executive produced by 3 Arts Entertainment’s Howard Klein and David Miner. Kaling and the cast will hold a virtual event on June 17 at 8 p.m. PT to debut the new season’s trailer. Fox Soul and Black Enterprise launched a partnership for original programming to highlight Black creatives, executives and cultural movers and shakers. The collaboration’s first series is “Economic Equity and Racial Justice Town Hall” and premieres on June 10 at 7 p.m. on Fox Soul with the episode “One Year After George Floyd: Has Corporate America Made Good on Its Economic Equality Pledges?”

LATE NIGHT

Bill Clinton, James Patterson, Wiz Khalifa and Jackson Browne will be on “Jimmy Kimmy Live,” while “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” will have on Jason Momoa, Rose Byrne and Clairo. Samantha Power, Maroon 5 and Seth Rogen will appear on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” and “Late Night With Seth Meyers” will have on David Harbour, Josh O’Connor, Garbage and Brendan Buckley.
