Neve Campbell Thinks Party of Five Reboot Is ‘Really Good’: ‘It’s a Compliment to the First’
Thanks to starring roles in ‘90s hits like Party of Five, Scream and The Craft, Neve Campbell became synonymous with the decade. And with Scream reprising and Party of Five receiving a modern-day remake, she's flattered that the originals were so beloved.
“When something is made a second time, it's a compliment to the first,” the actress, 46, tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “They wouldn't be making it if they didn't like the first version, so it's flattering.”
Campbell hasn’t seen MTV’s Scream series yet, but she loved the direction Freeform went with the new Party of Five, in which five siblings banned together after their parents got deported back to Mexico.
"It's actually really good," Campbell says of the Party of Five reboot, which was canceled after one season. “It's a very important topic right now and I think they handled it really well."

The original Party of Five, also starring Lacey Chabert, Matthew Fox and Scott Wolf, wrapped 20 years ago this month. “I look back on it very fondly,” the Canada native says. “It was exhausting — we were working really, really long hours and long seasons, but it was a great time for me. It was my first real big hit and venture into American television. I'm very, very grateful for it.”
Campbell remembers landing on the cover of Rolling Stone during her Party of Five era, during which she also starred in the Scream movies, The Craft and Three to Tango.
“I don't think it really had a lot to do with me,” she says of the cover appearance. “I think it had more to do with the fact that I was an actor who had transitioned from television into a really big hit studio movie. It was something that really wasn't done before.”

The mom of two continues to work on both the small and big screen, with recent roles in House of Cards and Skyscraper, opposite Dwayne Johnson. She can currently be seen as a terminally ill mom in Castle in the Ground and appears next in Clouds, the movie adaptation of cancer comeback story Fly a Little Higher.

“I like to challenge myself,” says Campbell, who will also reportedly appear in the forthcoming Scream 5. “It would be really boring if I was doing the same thing over and over again. If I get to play something very diverse from what I've done before, then that's always exciting to me.”
