Netflix's 'Scoop' Renews the Calls for King Charles To Remove Prince Andrew From 'Public View'

The royal family probably hoped that the Netflix film, Scoop, would come and go with barely a blip on the media’s radar. Unfortunately for them, the Duke of York’s name was trending all weekend long on social media and it reminded everyone of just how disastrous his 2019 BBC interview truly was.

The impact of the film has royal experts coming out of the woodwork to criticize the royal family’s handling of the situation. Author Tom Bower told the Daily Mail, “To save the Royal Family from more horrendous damage, King Charles will finally need to order Prince Andrew to permanently stay out of public view.” He believes that it’s time for everyone at the palace to face the truth because Prince Andrew “is a serious liability and cannot be trusted or rescued” and “unless King Charles firmly grasps this nettle it can only get worse.” That’s a pretty dramatic statement from an expert who is usually a true royalist, but the Jeffrey Epstein association is pretty dark.

Royal author Richard Fitzwilliams also pointed out that the Netflix film does the royal family no favors. “It is very embarrassing for the Palace and simply another indication that Andrew is completely unfit for the Royal Family he was born into,” he told the British outlet. “The public’s view of him is already ghastly and couldn’t be worse so this will confirm people’s opinions.” One glance at the X feed on Prince Andrew is all anyone needs to know about Scoop bringing his ghastly choices back to the forefront. “About to watch #ScoopNetflix and it comes as a very timely reminder exactly WHO and WHAT #PrinceAndrew IS. He’s been edging his way back into the #RoyalFamily without shame or remorse,” one X account wrote.

The Duke of York may feel like he’s been punished enough by losing his patronages and military titles, but it appears that the movie has left him unbothered. He breezily went horseback riding over the weekend as he casually waved to the camera crews stalking him. Sam McAlister, the BBC producer who nabbed the coveted interview with Prince Andrew in 2019, shared her observations about the royal with SheKnows. “Imagine being born with no need for a job,” she explained. “You’re a prince, your mum’s a queen, you live in a palace. At the stage that I met him, he’d had 59 years of being told that he was incredible, brilliant, and amazing. You know, we all drink the Kool-Aid on ourselves sometimes.”

That might be the case of what is happening here with Prince Andrew, but the cries are growing louder for him to step aside for good — he can’t avoid the criticism any longer.
