Netflix's "Never Have I Ever" Teen Comedy From Mindy Kaling Drops First Teaser Trailer

With Sex Education, Atypical, I Am Not Okay With This, On My Block and more, Netflix has cornered the market on exploring the highs and lows of being a teenager from a variety of perspectives. That corner is about to expand in a very fun way with the arrival of new series Never Have I Ever, which hits Netflix on April 27.

Never Have I Ever is a coming-of-age comedy centered around first-generation Indian-American teen Devi (played by newcomer Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), an "overachieving high school sophomore who has a short fuse that gets her into difficult situations," according to Netflix. The series hails from executive producers and co-creators Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher (The Mindy Project, 30 Rock). Even better, Never Have I Ever is loosely based on Mindy's own childhood.

Ahead of Never Have I Ever's debut, Netflix has shared a special sneak peek which introduces us to Devi, "your favorite Hindu girl in the San Fernando Valley" who just wants to have some regular, standard-issue high school experiences.

In the new teaser, which you can watch below, we see Devi praying in front on an altar in her room and asking for specific things to happen in this new school year. At the top of Devi's list: Attend a party with "alcohol and hard drugs." Devi has no interest in actually partaking, but she would love the option to reject it. Also on Devi's list is a prayer request for a boyfriend, preferably a hot, "dumb" guy from one of the sports teams at her school. So, yeah, just some very casual requests that, hopefully, the gods can make happen without any hijinks (there will most definitely be hijinks).
