Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ Adds Riki Lindhome, Hunter Doohan, More to Cast (TV News Roundup)

Netflix announced that 10 more actors have been added to the cast of “Wednesday,” the upcoming reboot of “The Addams Family” starring Jenna Ortega in the titular role.

Thora Birch joins the cast as Wednesday’s dorm mother Tamara Novak, while Riki Lindhome will play Wednesday’s therapist Dr. Valerie Kinbott, and Jamie McShane is Sheriff Donovan Galpin, who has a vendetta against Wednesday’s father Gomez (Luis Guzmán).

The newly announced actors portraying classmates of Wednesday Addams at Nevermore Academy are Hunter Doohan as Wednesday’s friend Tyler Galpin, who happens to also be the sheriff’s son; Georgie Farmer as shy Nevermore Academy student Ajax Petropolus; Moosa Mostafa as beekeeping club president Eugene Otinger; Emma Myers as Wednesday’s roommate Enid Sinclair; Naomi J. Ogawa as vampire Yoko Tanaka; Joy Sunday as popular girl Bianca Barclay, and Percy Hynes White as artist and rich kid Xavier Thorpe.

Along with Ortega and Guzmán, previously announced cast members include Catherine Zeta-Jones, who will play Morticia.

Directed and executive produced by Tim Burton, “Wednesday” is a coming-of-age comedy that follows Wednesday as she studies and develops relationships at Nevermore Academy while also trying to master her psychic abilities, stop a local killing spree and solve a supernatural mystery.

Joining Burton as executive producers are Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman on behalf of 1.21; Kevin Miserocchi, Kayla Alpert and Jonathan Glickman on behalf of Glickmania; Gail Berman; and showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar. MGM Television is the studio.

Bravo announced that Season 19 of “Project Runway” will premiere Oct. 14 at 9 p.m. Mentor Christian Siriano and judges Nina Garcia, Brandon Maxwell and Elaine Welteroth return to the series, which puts 16 designers in a competition where the finalists will show a collection at New York Fashion Week and one winner will receive $250,000. This season will include a new challenge to design the best reunion outfit for stars from “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” “The Real Housewives of New York City” and “The Real Housewives of Potomac.” Additionally, a digital series titled “Project Runway Redemption” will premiere on Sept. 9 with new episodes airing weekly until the “Project Runway” Season 19 premiere. “Project Runway” is produced by Alfred Street Industries and Spyglass Media Group. Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz, Nan Strait, Dan Volpe, Meri Haitkin and J.J. Duncan executive produce on behalf of Alfred Street Industries. Christian Siriano also executive produces. “Project Runway” is internationally distributed by Fremantle. Episodes will stream on Peacock the day after they air.

Tubi announced that “Tales of a Fifth Grade Robin Hood,” a new comedy, will debut on Aug. 27. The film follows a young boy (played by Chase Brown) who sets out to make things right after discovering that the vice principal (Jon Lovitz of “Saturday Night Live”) is stealing money from the school. Iliana Perez and Jayden Scala also star. Produced by The Asylum, “Tales of a Fifth Grade Robin Hood” is written by Ryan Ebert and Anna Rasmussen and directed by Dylan Vox. Tubi is also partnering with Kids in Need Foundation, an organization that provides school supplies and learning tools to under-resourced teachers and students around the country.

FIRST LOOKS

Disney Plus released a trailer for “Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.,” a new coming-of-age dramedy premiering on Sept. 8. The series stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee as Lahela “Doogie” Kamealoha, a 16-year-old who already has a medical career. Kathleen Rose Perkins, Jason Scott Lee, Matthew Sato, Wes Tian, Emma Meisel, Mapuana Makia, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, Alex Aiono and Ronny Chieng also star, along with guest stars Randall Park, Max Greenfield, Margaret Cho, Al Harrington, Amy Hill, David S. Jung, Jae Suh Park, Ty Simpkins, Kylie Cantrall and Jake Shimabukuro. The series is shot on location in O’ahu, Hawaii. Kourtney Kang serves as creator, and executive produces alongside Melvin Mar, Jake Kasdan, Dayna Bochco, Jesse Bochco, Erin O’Malley, Matt Kuhn and Justin McEwen. “Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.” is produced by 20th Television. PROGRAMMING

“Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin has announced his next on-screen project: A short film based on the novel “Night of the Cooters,” by author Howard Waldrop. According to Martin, Vincent D’Onofrio directed and stars as Sheriff Lindley in the short, which is about Martians invading a small Texas town. Joe Landsale wrote the screenplay, and is among the producers, along with Martin, D’Onofrio, Waldrop, Justin Duval, Joe Dean, Taylor Church, Martin Sensmeier, L.C. Crowley, Greg Jonkajtys, Elias Gallegos, Lenore Gallegos and Amy Filbeck. Principal photography has wrapped; the film will now be transformed by Trioscope (“The Liberator”) into an enhanced hybrid live action/animation presentation. Martin writes on his blog that he expects the film to be ready sometime next year, but distribution details are still to come.

RENEWALS

Starz renewed “Run the World” for a second season. Starring Amber Stevens West, Andrea Bordeaux, Bresha Webb and Corbin Reid, the comedy follows a friend group of Black women in their 30s navigating life in Harlem together. Stephen Bishop and Tosin Morohunfola also star. “Run the World” is executive produced by Yvette Lee Bowser and showrunner Rachelle Williams. Lionsgate Television produces, with senior vice president of television Jocelyn Sabo and director of television Maggie Leung overseeing the series on the company’s behalf. Overseeing on behalf of Starz is senior vice president of original programming Kathryn Tyus-Adair.

INSP renewed “Ultimate Cowboy Showdown” for a third season. Hosted and executive produced by country musician Trace Adkins, the competition series sees a group of cowboys complete individual and team challenges in hopes of the “Ultimate Cowboy Showdown” belt buckle and their own herd of cattle, worth at least $50,000. Glassman Media produces.

EVENTS

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) announced that the All Out pay-per-view event will show live in select theaters on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m ET. One of AEW’s four major annual wrestling pay-per-view events, this year’s All Out will air live from the Now Arena in Hoffman Estates, a suburb of Chicago. Joe Hand Promotions is supporting the theatrical event. Participating theaters include Cinemark, AMC, Harkins, Galaxy, Marcus, Emagine, Studio Movie Grill and Cinepolis Luxury Cinemas in the U.S., and Landmark Cinemas in Canada.

LATE NIGHT

Jason Momoa, Rose Byrne and Clairo will appear on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
