Netflix Top 10: ‘Sex Education’ Final Season Debuts at No. 1 as ‘One Piece’ Shifts to Third Place on English TV Chart

“Sex Education” Season 4 opened to 12 million total views during the Sept. 18-24 viewing window, subsequently ending the No. 1 streak of One Piece” on Netflix Top 10’s English-language TV chart and bringing the Moordale students’ story to a close on a high note.

The finale featured several new faces alongside the original crew including “Schitt’s Creek” star Dan Levy, Thaddea Graham (“Doctor Who”), Lisa McGrillis (“Somewhere Boy”), Marie Reuther (“Kamikaze”), Jodie Turner Smith, Eshaan Akbar.

“One Piece” remains fairly high above the competition, landing in third place on the chart. After recently scoring a Season 2 pickup, the show gained another 6.2 million total views in its third full week of availability.

In its first four days of availability, the live-action adaptation of the Japanese manga quickly sailed to the top of Netflix’s top 10 chart with 18.5 million total views. During the Aug. 28-Sept. 3 viewing window, the series reached the Top 10 in 93 countries, and debuted at No. 1 in 46 with 140.1 million hours viewed. During the Sept. 4-10 viewing window, the show raked in another 19.2 million total views and was the most-viewed title of the week. While it’s not an exact comparison (Netflix only calculated viewing hours at the time), “Cowboy Bebop” — Netflix’s 2021 live-action adaptation based on the anime series of the same name, which was canceled after one season — opened at No. 9 on 15.26 million hours viewed in its first four days of availability.

Season 2 of “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal” also opened high on the chart, taking the No. 2 slot with 7.6 million total views in its first five days of availability. Directed by Michael Gasparro and executive produced by Julia Willoughby Nason, offers an inside look at the trial of Alex Murdaugh, who faced a jury over the murder of his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul earlier this year. The first season of the series also experienced a resurgence among the top 10, joining the Top 10 in 10th place with 2.4 million total views — a tie with “The Pacific,” which made its debut on Sept. 15. The title sits at No. 9 on the list due to a difference in viewing hours (“The Pacific” has a runtime of nearly 9 hours, pushing the series to 21.5 million hours viewed while Season 1 of “Murdaugh Murders” managed 5.7 million hours viewed with a runtime of 2.23 hours).

Elsewhere on the chart, unscripted titles “Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons” Season 7 and Season 5 of “Love is Blind” scored fifth and seventh place on the list. The reality dating series recorded 3 million views with the release of its first four episodes on Sept. 22. With a staggered release schedule, the title is expected to remain among the Top 10 for the next few weeks as fans follow along to see who will say “I do.”

Season 5 of “Virgin River” continues to keep a steady hold in the top half of the chart, landing at No. 4 with 4.9 million total views in its third week among the list of titles.

Meanwhile, Australian drama “Surviving Summer” earned sixth place with the release of Season 2. In its first full week of availability, the installment picked up 3.4 million total views – pushing it ahead of Kountry Wayne’s Netflix standup special “A Woman’s Prayer,” which reached 2.6 million total views during its first six days of availability on the streamer.
