Netflix Top 10: ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Opens in First Place With 21.2 Million Views, Up 15% From ‘One Piece’ Live-Action Debut

“Avatar: The Last Airbender” was the most-watched title on Netflix from Feb. 19 to Feb. 25, which included the series’ first five days of availability. Based on Nickelodeon’s animated hit series of the same name, the live-action adaptation reached 21.2 million views in its first four days of availability.

That puts it 15% above the September debut of Netflix’s most recently comparable title: “One Piece,” a live-action adaptation of the manga series of the same name, which was also the basis for a cult favorite anime.

It’s a good sign for Netflix that “Avatar” outpaced “One Piece’s” 18.5 million-view debut, though this was expected given the comparatively larger appetite for the “Avatar” IP in the United States. The series’ staying power will also be important in determining the franchise’s viability for Netflix. For comparison, “One Piece” took first place on the Netflix Top 10 three times in a row, and remained on the chart for eight weeks in total.

The No. 2 TV title was romantic drama “One Day.” The series debuted at No. 3 before rising to first place from Feb. 12-19, its first full week of availability, when it got 9.9 million views. From Feb. 20-26, it hit 7.5 million views. “Love Is Blind” Season 6 also reached 7.5 million this week, during which Episodes 6-9 premiered.

Besides “Avatar,” three titles made their chart debuts: docuseries “Can I Tell You a Secret?” (No. 4 with 6.5 million views in five days), comedy special “Mike Epps: Ready to Sell Out” (No. 7 with 3 million views in six days) and “Formula 1: Drive to Survive” Season 6 (No. 8 with 2.9 million views in three days).

Elsewhere on the chart was “Griselda” for its fifth week (3.1 million views), “Warrior” Season 1 for its second week (3.1 million views), “Resident Alien” Season 1 also for a second week (2.2 million views) and “The Tourist” (2.1 million views).

Of note on the film side is “Mea Culpa,” the most-watched film and second-most-watched title overall on Netflix from Feb. 19-25 with 16 million views.

Netflix’s first-ever live airing of the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Feb. 24 did not crack the Top 10.

See Netflix’s Top 10 lists for the week of Feb. 19-25 below, beginning with English-language series and followed by non-English-language TV shows, English-language movies and then non-English-language movies.
