Netflix Signs 10-Year Lease for Production Stages at Sunset Bronson Studios
Netflix will lease stages and production offices at L.A.’s Sunset Bronson Studios for a 10-year term, under an expanded deal with real-estate developer Hudson Pacific Properties.
As previously announced, Netflix has leased Hudson Pacific’s entire 323,000-square-foot Icon office tower on the site (pictured above), which is currently under construction. Netflix is expected to move into the building, which will be its base of operations for Southern California, in early 2017.
Netflix is currently shooting the series “Girlboss” at Sunset Bronson Studios. The half-hour comedy stars Britt Robertson (“Tomorrowland”) and is based on the bestselling book “#Girlboss” by Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso.
“Netflix is one of the entertainment industry’s most innovative content producers, and we’re pleased to deepen our relationship,” Hudson Pacific Properties chairman and CEO Victor Coleman said in a statement. “This deal also fulfills Hudson Pacific’s vision of bringing a major content producer to Hollywood, and highlights the changing nature of the studio business.”
The Icon building is part of Hudson Pacific’s larger undertaking to transform Sunset Bronson Studios, which is the original location of Warner Bros. Studios where “The Jazz Singer” was filmed in the 1920s. Among other upgrades, Hudson Pacific is building a five-story, 96,000-square-foot creative office building, called Cue, scheduled for completion in the summer of 2017. Other networks operating on the Sunset Bronson lot include ABC, CBS, HBO and KTLA.
