Netflix Renews Drew Barrymore’s ‘Santa Clarita Diet’ for Season 2 (Video)

Netflix’s bloody comedy “Santa Clarita Diet” has been renewed for a second season, the streaming service announced Wednesday in a teaser.

The Netflix promo shows an unidentifiable hand making the number “2” out of body parts. It follows that up with a card that reads, “Ready for seconds?”

Season 2 doesn’t have a specific release date yet, but Netflix says it’ll be out for binge-watching in 2018.

The announcement comes less than two months after Season 1’s premiere. The show follows suburban couple Sheila Hammond (Drew Barrymore) and her husband John (Timothy Olyphant) as they deal with Sheila’s new cannibalistic urges, which come about after she dies. It’s one part dark comedy and another part zombie story, although “Santa Clarita Diet” uses the opportunity to play around with the zombie formula.

There’s much to look forward to in the upcoming season. There were a lot of questions posed in Season 1, such as how Sheila was infected with the “virus,” if there’s a cure, and if she’ll continue to become more like the traditional, decayed zombie. “Santa Clarita Diet” has created a world with a familiar, but unique problem and we’re interested to see where it goes.

Season 1 debuted on Feb. 3 and is now streaming. Since Season 2 isn’t premiering until 2018 — you have time to catch up.
