Netflix Orders New Series Starring Jamie Dornan, Mackenzie Davis, Julie Delpy

New series featuring Fifty Shades of Grey heartthrob Jamie Dornan as identical twins and Julie Delpy as the French president are among the highlights of Netflix’s new British series slate, which the streamer unveiled at an event in London on Thursday.

Dornan, seen recently in Netflix’s The Tourist, will play twin brothers Adam and Lee in The Undertow, a U.K. adaptation of the Norwegian series Twin, which featured Game of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju in the lead roles. Mackenzie Davis (Station Eleven) plays Nicola, who is stuck in a loveless marriage to Adam before the arrival of his brother Lee turns her life upside down. Kristoffer Metcalfe created the Norwegian original, which Nordisk Film produced. Complete Fiction and wiip are adapting the series, with production to start in Scotland later this year.

Two-time Oscar nominee Delpy will play Vivienne Toussaint, the fictional first French female president, in political thriller The Choice, opposite Gentleman Jack actress Suranne Jones as British Prime Minister Abigail Dalton. The series, from Bridge of Spies and Treason writer Matt Charman, focuses on an international summit between the two leaders that goes sideways when Dalton’s husband is kidnapped and Toussaint is blackmailed. The two women find themselves in a fierce rivalry where their political futures and lives hang in the balance. Netflix is producing together with Binocular Productions.

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight will be bringing his latest period drama, House of Guinness, to Netflix. Described as the epic story of the Irish family behind the iconic beer brand, the 19th-century set show will be produced by Kudos.

See-Saw Films, producers of AppleTV+ hit Slow Horses, will be adapting Marian Keyes’ best-selling novel Grown Ups for Netflix. The ensemble drama about a big messy Irish family — brothers Johnny, Ed and Liam Casey and their trio of beautiful, talented wives and children — is currently casting. Sam Strauss is adapting the novel and will executive produce the series.

Jack Thorne, whose writing credits include the adaptation of His Dark Materials for HBOMax, Netflix’s Enola Holmes, feature film Wonder and hit stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, is joining forces with Stephen Graham and Philip Barantini, co-creators of BBC series Boiling Point, for Adolescence, a four-part limited crime drama told in a real-time, one-shot style, which Barantini will direct. Warp Films, Matriarch and Plan B Entertainment are producing.

On the non-fiction side, Netflix also announced the new Bear Grylls reality competition show Bear Hunt, which features the famed survivalist putting a group of Brit celebrities through their paces in a jungle in Central America and the Guy Ritchie-produced true crime doc series Millennium Diamond Heist about an audacious broad daylight robbery in London in 2000.
