Netflix Orders ‘The Kissing Booth’; YA Adaptation To Be Produced By Komixx

Netflix has ordered an original feature-length film adaptation of teenage author Beth Reekles’ young adult novel, The Kissing Booth. London- and LA-based Komixx Media is producing the drama with Vince Marcello (Teen Beach Movie) aboard to direct from his own screenplay.

Reekles was 15 when she wrote the book which first appeared via online storytelling community Wattpad and was later published as an ebook by Random House in 2012 and as a paperback in 2013. The debut novel received more than 19 million reads worldwide.

Set in the U.S., The Kissing Booth follows Elle Evans a sixteen-year-old girl who’s popular and loves to party but has never been kissed. Things take a turn Elle never expected when she ends-up in a kissing booth at Spring Carnival, facing her long-term crush — her best friend’s brother, Noah. The course of love never did run smoothly and the narrative charts the ups-and-downs of infatuation, as Elle is swept-up in a romance with the hottest boy in school.

Komixx specializes in identifying IP with commercial potential for pre-school, family and young adult authored content, which is develops into TV and film properties. The Kissing Booth is the latest of its bestseller adaptions which includes The Winter Horses by Philip Kerr, YA thriller series ITCH and the Emma Pass novels The Fearless and Acid.
