An Untimely Cancellation
Fans of the experimental Netflix sci-fi show The OA were crushed when the series was not renewed for a third season, leaving the series behind with a major cliffhanger. The high concept series had a small but passionate fanbase who immediately started an online campaign: #SaveTheOA.
Hope For A Finale Dashed
Fans had hoped that Netflix could be convinced to renew it after the online outrage, or at least give it a finale film like they did with another niche sci-fi show, Sense8. Unfortunately, Variety reports that they were unable to reach an agreement and the streaming service passed on a film to wrap it up. According to sources, the original five season model was unable to be condensed and "a two-hour conclusion wouldn’t have been sufficient."
Fans Are Crushed
Fans are understandably devastated at this news, but they are not giving up quite yet. Some are still hoping that Netflix can be persuaded into a renewal or that another streaming service could pick up the show instead. While that method worked for One Day At A Time, it seems unlikely that the same will happen to The OA, a much more expensive and particular show.
