Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Netflix and Major League Baseball (MLB) are developing two new projects about the Boston Red Sox.
Netflix announced in a press release Wednesday that it is partnering with MLB on a docuseries following the Red Sox over the course of the 2024 season and a documentary film about the team's historic 2004 season.
The docuseries will provide viewers "a window into what it takes to compete across a season's ups and downs in one of the most rabid sports environments" and provide unprecedented access to players, coaches and executives.
The show is directed by Greg Whitelely, who also executive produces with Andrew Fried and Dane Lillegard.
Meanwhile, the untitled documentary film will revisit the Red Sox's "extraordinary and historic" 2004 season, which culminated with "one of the greatest comebacks in sports history and the franchise's first World Series title in 86 years."
The film will feature new interviews with key players and figures from the team.
Colin Barnicle will direct the documentary and executive produce with Nick Barnicle, John Skipper, Deirdre Fenton, Howard Bryant, Melody Shaffir, Nick Davis and Nick Trotta.
"Baseball is driven by the incredible stories of our athletes," MLB deputy commissioner of business and media Noah Garden said. "Teaming up with Netflix for these two exciting projects is a tremendous opportunity to not only bring our avid fans closer to the game they love, but also introduce new audiences to the undeniable emotion that baseball evokes."
The docuseries will premiere in 2025, while the documentary will be released later this year.
