Netflix has officially mailed out its last red envelope.
The streaming giant announced the news in a blog post on Friday, in which the company reminisced about sending its first DVD via mail 25 years ago, and shared a nostalgia-inducing video titled "Long Live the Red Envelope Era" to commemorate the end of the service.
"In 1998, we delivered our first DVD. This morning, we shipped our last," the post read. "For 25 years, we redefined how people watched films and series at home, and shared the excitement as they opened their mailboxes to our iconic red envelopes."
"It’s the end of an era, but the DVD business built our foundation for the years to come – giving members unprecedented choice and control, a wide variety of titles to choose from and the freedom to watch as much as they want," the company added. "Today, we wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for watching."

Netflix also shared an infographic with some stats from the service's 25 years, including the fact that the first-ever disc shipped was Beetlejuice (1988), the first Blu-ray disc was shipped in 2006 and the company reached a milestone of 5 billion discs shipped in 2019.
"Thank you for loving our red envelopes, sharing countless movie nights with us at home and being part of our final season," Netflix's blog post added.
The company also revealed the contents of the final delivery, with the Netflix DVD account writing on X (formerly Twitter), "Inside the last-ever red envelope that we shipped out was… the Blu-ray disc of True Grit (2010)."
Netflix revealed the news that it would be discontinuing its DVD delivery service back in April.
"On September 29th, 2023, we will send out the last red envelope," the Netflix DVD account tweeted. "It has been a true pleasure and honor to deliver movie nights to our wonderful members for 25 years. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey, including this final season of red envelopes."
"We sincerely want to thank all of our amazing members. We couldn't have delivered more than 5 billion envelopes all across America without movie lovers like you," the tweet read.
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos wrote in a statement, "Our goal has always been to provide the best service for our members but as the business continues to shrink that's going to become increasingly difficult."
"Those iconic red envelopes changed the way people watched shows and movies at home — and they paved the way for the shift to streaming," he continued. "From the beginning, our members loved the choice and control that direct-to-consumer entertainment offered: the wide variety of the titles and the ability to binge watch entire series."
Despite the mixed responses from Netflix subscribers about the decision to end the delivery service, Sarandos said in his April statement that he was grateful for the support over the years.
"We feel so privileged to have been able to share movie nights with our DVD members for so long, so proud of what our employees achieved and excited to continue pleasing entertainment fans for many more decades to come," he wrote. "To everyone who ever added a DVD to their queue or waited by the mailbox for a red envelope to arrive: thank you."
