Netflix Hires Production Exec Sheroum Kim From STX as Director of Independent Films

Netflix announced on Wednesday it has hired Sheroum Kim, another Hollywood studio exec to bolster its film production unit, according to a person with knowledge of the hire.

Kim is expected to start on the job next week working under Matt Brodlie, co-head of independent films at Netflix. Kim will serve as Netflix’s director of independent films. She previously worked at STX Entertainment, where she was senior vice president of production.

While at STX, Kim worked on films including the Hailee Steinfeld’s “The Edge Of Seventeen,” “I Feel Pretty,” starring Amy Schumer, and Shailene Woodley’s “Adrift.” STX plans to announce a replacement for Kim soon.

Prior to STX, Kim was head of development at 22 & Indiana Pictures, where she developed and executive-produced Clint Eastwood-Bradley Cooper hit “American Sniper.” Kim began her career with Warner Bros and WME.

Netflix is kicking off 2019 by continuing to strengthen its film ranks. In December, the streaming giant hired former Fox film production veteran Kira Goldberg. She reports to Tendo Nagenda, whom the streaming giant hired from Disney earlier in the year. Nagenda, had been a highly valued and respected production executive at Disney, and was brought in under Netflix film head Scott Stuber to lead film production at Netflix.

Netflix also ended 2018 by hiring former ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey as VP of original content. Dungey is working directly with Cindy Holland, also VP of original content.
