She’ll be joined by Patric Richardson, the star of HGTV’s “The Laundry Guy.”

The Des Moines Home + Garden show is a home improvement mecca, featuring exhibitors, gardens for inspiration and made-in-Iowa goods. The weekend event is perfect for people looking to spruce up their living space, get assistance on a home project or seek out professional services for renovations.

And Williams is happy to provide her opinions on whatever visitors are trying to figure out when it comes to their home, she told the Des Moines Register.

This will be Williams’ first time in Des Moines. She already nabbed a reservation at Clyde’s Fine Diner, spurred on when she learned owner and chef Chris Hoffmann is a James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef Midwest.

The Register spoke to Williams about the trends she’s loving to see in homes (incorporating wellness into your space) and what advice she has for first time Des Moines Home + Garden Show visitors.

Des Moines Register: Can you tell me a bit more about what you’ll be talking about with folks at the Des Moines Home + Garden Show?

Ati Williams: I've done a few different shows and I would always go in and present a lot of stuff around what are the things that you need to do to give you the most bang for your buck. Or we would do certain types of DIY projects and stuff like that, but then every time at the end of the session, I would do a Q&A. So I present for about 30 minutes and then assume that I'm doing a Q&A for about 15 minutes and then there's always people who would be leftover to ask more questions. And we realized that people just have a lot of questions about their homes. And so, the Des Moines team was super insightful about this and decided that “Hey, why don't we just make it a come and ask me a question session, right?” Anything that you might be working on, whether it's little, small projects at home or you want to refinish your cabinets or, “What type of floor should I be putting down? Should I be looking at hardwood versus luxury vinyl?” Just these things that a lot of people who are remodeling a lot of times have the same exact questions.

Des Moines Register: What are some of the home decor trends you’re seeing in 2024 that you’re excited about?

Ati Williams: I am really loving this whole wellness in home movement, like where people are wanting their homes to be more nurturing and so they're using those types of decisions in terms of figuring out lighting, like what type of right lighting is ideal in my home? What kinds of finished surfaces do I want? Do I want warm and cozy versus cool and stuff like that? Paint colors. Which is also kind of leading to a trend called dopamine, but it's like all sorts of splashes of color and splashes of pattern. It's maximalist. It's total opposite of the minimalist… So, I love that whole idea of how do you bring wellness into your home… it sounds like an overwhelming project, but it really isn't. It could be as simple as I want to create spa vibes in my bathroom. Every time I go to the spa, I'm super relaxed and blah blah blah. So how do I do that in my bathroom? OK, I'm just going to go on Amazon and I'm going to get a giant, big 20-inch rainfall shower and switch out — it's no tools needed, no contractor needed — and now I've got this beautiful rainfall shower and I can calm down, I could relax more.

Des Moines Register: For folks visiting their first Home + Garden Show, what advice do you have on how to tackle so much happening in just a short amount of time?

Ati Williams: When I go to these home shows, I learn so much and I come across products and vendors that I was not familiar with. And so I think it's more of an open mind. I'm very much like a planner person, so I always have a list for everything. I think it's just the time to go in and explore and feel and touch and see IRL.
