Netflix faces backlash for cancelling The Irregulars after just one season
Netflix is coming under fire from fans for cancelling fantasy drama The Irregulars after just one season, with many people taking to Twitter to express their disappointment at the news.
The Irregulars only landed on Netflix a few weeks ago in March this year, and already Netflix has announced that it is cancelling the supernatural detective show, despite the fact that the eight-part series launching straight into the Netflix top 10 list and becoming a big favourite with viewers. However, according to Deadline the streamer has made the decision not to continue with a second instalment of the show.
The news came as a shock to many since another series was expected. Last month Newsweek reported the second season of The Irregulars was tipped to start filming in Liverpool this summer. At the time, creator Tom Bidwell also told Radio Times that the cast and crew were keen to make more, commenting, "Season two, season three, we’d love to do if we get a chance."
The Irregulars is essentially a Sherlock Holmes spin-off, and follows the inhabitants of 221B Baker Street as they solve a series of mysteries in order to protect London, but the big twist is that the gang is a group of "troubled street teens" and they're up against supernatural forces.
Since the news broke fans have been quick to express their disappointment on Twitter, with many of them surprised by the news.

This isn't the first time Netflix has faced backlash for a cancellation. In recent years viewers have spoken out about some of these decisions, calling out the streamer's strategy of cancelling series after just two or three seasons.
