Netflix Changed Its Description of 'Infinity War' After Backlash From Fans
Thanos may be a murderous fictional alien with a skin goatee, but apparently that hasn’t stopped him from building his own Beyhive of devoted stans. When Avengers: Infinity War hit Netflix on Christmas, the streaming platform’s description of Thanos as an "intergalactic sociopath" sparked a debate among fans.
Netflix’s initial description read that Infinity War found the Avengers attempting to "stop intergalactic sociopath Thanos from acquiring a full set of Infinity Stones and wiping out half of all life in the universe." Apparently that rattled the Thanos-hive, who argued that since he was "trying to save the universe from overpopulation" his decision to murder half of all creation was somehow not sociopathic. Netflix apparently caved, because the film’s description now reads: "Invader. Annihilator. So-called savior. As Thanos moves ever closer to omnipotence, the fate of the universe rests with the Avengers."
Psychology Today, the DSM-5 of the internet, posted a rundown of traits associated with sociopathy, and gotta say, Thanos certainly ticks a lot of boxes. Rule breaking? Check. Lack of empathy? Check. Narcissism and cold-heartedness? Check and check. But who knows, maybe Netflix was wrong and the twist in Endgame will be that Thanos is actually an intergalactic mensch.
