Baseball is heading to Netflix. The streaming service announced on Wednesday its partnership with Major League Baseball to create two projects about the Boston Red Sox.

What to Expect in Each Series About the Boston Red Sox?

Netflix will follow the 2024 Red Sox season from start to finish, with “unprecedented access” to Red Sox players, coaches, and executives. This is the first time Netflix will document an MLB team throughout an entire season. The series will film in 2024 and premiere in 2025.

The second project is a documentary examining the 2004 Red Sox, featuring exclusive interviews with players and key members that broke the Curse of the Bambino to win their first World Series title since 1918. The documentary will premiere later in 2024.

“The partnership between MLB, Netflix, and the Red Sox will have a significant impact on growing the game of baseball,” Red Sox Chairman Tom Werner said in a statement via Deadline. “The reach of Netflix is profound and these docuseries are ambitious. One will relive one of the most magical stories that forever changed this franchise, and the other is a truly groundbreaking endeavor that will provide an inside look at the lives and personalities of today’s Red Sox players.”

The 2024 Red Sox season documentary will be executive-produced and directed by Greg Whiteley (Cheer, Last Chance U) and his One Potato Productions. Other executive producers include Boardwalk Pictures’ Andrew Fried and Dane Lillegard.

The documentary about the 2004 season will be directed and executive produced by Colin Barnicle (Carol & Johnny). Executive producers include Nick Barnicle, Howard Bryant, Nick Davis, Deirdre Fenton, Melody Shaffir, John Skipper, and Nick Trotta. Meadowlark Media will produce.
