Nebraska Teen, 16, Accused of Cutting Her Newborn’s Throat After Father Finds Baby in Bag

A 16-year-old in Nebraska has been arrested on allegations she killed her newborn baby, according to multiple reports.

The teenager allegedly gave birth to the infant on Nov. 6 and the child was later found dead inside her bedroom, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Star Herald, KOLN and KHGI.

The girl’s father had called 911 and reported that a newborn baby was not breathing and had been stillborn. Upon arriving, authorities found the girl and her mother with the infant, who was wrapped in a towel, per the affidavit.

The teenager’s mother told authorities, “She hurt him," allegedly referencing the 16-year-old’s behavior toward the newborn, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, the mother told authorities she found blood on the walls and floor of the girl's bedroom while she was out, and when the teen returned home, she told her mother that the baby was “dead” and that “she killed it."

Her father reportedly found the baby in the teenager’s closet, covered in clothes and inside a dog food bag, according to the affidavit. The father tried to save the baby by performing CPR before he ultimately called 911. According to the affidavit, one of the responding officers saw multiple stab wounds on the infant and its throat had been cut.

The teenager had taken a knife from the kitchen of her home in Gordon, Neb., according to statements from her parents to authorities, the Star Herald reported, citing the affidavit. The knife was later found in her closet.

When the teenager returned home, she admitted to having killed the baby, according to the affidavit.

The teenager was treated at a local hospital and reportedly underwent surgery following the encounter with authorities at her home.

On Nov. 9, she was arraigned on charges including first-degree murder and the use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony. The Star Herald reported that she is being held without bond.

It's not immediately clear if she has entered a plea or retained an attorney.
