NBCUniversal Cable Orders Pilot for Supernatural Thriller Series With Jason Blum Producing

The Entertainment Networks Group of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment has ordered a pilot for a supernatural thriller series that will be executive produced by horror film maven Jason Blum, Variety has learned.

Titled “Run for Your Life,” the series would be centered on the last night of Dia de Los Muertos, otherwise known as the Day of the Dead. A grieving detective is thrust into a deadly game to bring someone back from the dead. Josh Segarra is set to star as Julian Silva alongside Andrew Jacobs as Victor Macias, Carlos Leal as Yellow Skull, Danube Hermosillo as Lia Macias, Angela Alvarado as Elena Macias, Jennifer Landon as Detective Rachel Spokes, Kadeem Hardison as Captain Gilbert “Gil” Barnes, and Fernanda Andrade as Mariana Silva.

The Entertainment Networks Group is comprised of USA Network and Syfy. Should the pilot be ordered to series, the network on which it would air would be determined at that time.

The pilot will be produced by Universal Television and Blumhouse Television. It is based on an original idea from “The Voice” executive producer Lee Metzger, one of several projects for which he serves as an executive producer through his Universal Television overall deal. Chris Cullari and Jennifer Raite wrote the pilot and will serve as co-executive producers. Patricia Riggen will direct and co-executive produce the pilot. Blum, Jeremy Gold, Marci Wiseman and Jessica Rhoades will serve as executive producers for Blumhouse.

Cullari and Raite previously collaborated with Blum on the YouTube Red miniseries “12 Deadly Days.” The duo created, directed, and executive produced that project with Blum executive producing.

Blumhouse is primarily known for their string of succesful horror film releases. The company is behind the hit franchise “The Purge,” M. Night Shyamalan’s “Split,” and Jordan Peele’s “Get Out.” The company also produced the Oscar-winning film “Whiplash” starring Miles Teller. On the television side, Blumhouse produced HBO’s “The Jinx,” and is currently working on projects like: a series version of “The Purge,” “Secure and Hold,” a limited series for Showtime based on journalist Gabriel Sherman’s reporting on former Fox News chief, Roger Ailes; and “Sharp Objects,” a limited series from Marti Noxon and Gillian Flynn for HBO based on Flynn’s best-selling novel of the same name and starring Amy Adams, with Jean-Marc Valle directing all episodes.

Cullari and Raite are repped by the Gersh Agency. Raite is also repped by Stagecoach Entertainment. Metzger is repped by WME. Blumhouse Television and Riggen are repped by CAA.
