NBC Gets Back to Business as Usual with Fall 2024 Schedule

NBC’s schedule for the 2024-25 season doesn’t look that different from its current lineup: The Voice on Monday and Tuesday nights, the three Chicago dramas on Wednesday and Law & Order shows on Thursday.

It’s a business-as-usual lineup — but after last year’s strikes-affected schedule and the numerous disrpuptions of the pandemic year of 2020-21 still relatively fresh, that’s a good thing.

“Basically, it was just where do we put our sophomore shows and our our new shows on schedule?” Steve Kern, senior vp program planning and scheduling at NBC Entertainment, told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. “Our wish was to have two comedy blocks on the fall schedule, and we were fortunate to have enough comedies to do it this year.”

NBC will have four comedies on the air in the fall — the first time that’s happened since the pre-pandemic season of 2019-20. Two of them are newcomers: Mockumentary St. Denis Medical — a holdover from last year’s development cycle from Superstore creator Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin — will pair with Night Court on Tuesday nights, and the Reba McEntire-led Happy’s Place will join Lopez vs. Lopez on Fridays.

The network’s other new series for fall is the medical drama Brilliant Minds, which stars Zachary Quinto as a neurologist leading a team of doctors who explore the human mind. It’s inspired by the life of and work of physician and author Oliver Sacks.

Brilliant Minds will follow The Voice on Monday nights, while last fall’s 10 p.m. Monday show, The Irrational, moves one night over to Tuesdays. Second-year drama Found will follow Law & Order: SVU on Thursdays now that L&O: Organized Crime is moving to Peacock.

Later in the season, NBC will premiere the 10-part nature series The Americas, narrated by Tom Hanks. The years-in-the-making series, which was greenlit in January 2020, will premiere on Feb. 23. Also on deck are a crime drama called The Hunting Party, starring Manifest’s Melisssa Roxborough, returning unscripted show Deal or No Deal Island and a new competition series titled Destination X.

NBC will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live with a three-hour primetime special on Feb. 16.

The network also has two drama pilots under consideration in Suits: LA, a companion show to the former USA Network series-turned-streaming juggernaut, and Grosse Pointe Garden Society, from Good Girls executive producers Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs. Decisions on them will come sometime after the upfronts.
