NBC Buys Single Dad Comedy Produced By Elizabeth Banks & Max Handelman

NBC has given a script commitment plus penalty for a half-hour single camera comedy from Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman’s Brownstone Productions, Black List scribes Sam Pitman and Adam Cole-Kelly and Warner Bros. Television.

Co-written and executive produced by Pitman and Cole-Kelly, the untitled project centers on a 30-something father who’s trying to navigate his life a year after his wife suddenly dies: how to live, date, parent, etc., all with the unrelenting, unsolicited advice of his in-laws, parents, friends, wife’s friends and nanny — aka his new makeshift family. Banks and Handelman executive produce through Brownstone as part of the company’s overall deal at WBTV.

This is the second TV sale for Brownstone via WBTV this season, joining family comedy Something to Celebrate, based on the Spanish format, which is set up at CBS with Vera Santamaria writing. On the feature side, the company has an untitled comedic dance movie set at Universal, with Amy Talkington attached to write.

Pitman and Cole-Kelly first got on the map when their script The Diversification of Noah Miller made the Black List. The pair also have Pregnancy Pact, a comedy that has been in development at New Line with Red Hour Productions. They are repped by UTA, Mosaic and Hansen. Banks is repped by UTA, Untitled and Ziffren.
