Thomas H Begay, one of the last surviving Navajo Code Talkers and a Marine veteran who survived the Battle of Iwo Jima, received a COVID-19 vaccine shot on February 2.
Code Talkers were specially recruited members of the military who used tribal languages to transmit secret messages during World War II. According to an official biography, Begay, who was born in 1926, sent hundreds of messages during the Battle of Iwo Jima.
