The Nature Conservancy Global Photo Contest returns for Michigan nature lovers

If you’re a Michigan nature-lover who is always taking the perfect nature clicks, you can now submit your photos for a chance to win prizes and a virtual meeting with YouTuber Coyote Peterson, star of "Brave Wilderness."

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is now accepting entries for its global photo contest. Entries can include wildlife, landscape, and other nature photos.

Photos will be judged in the following six categories: people and nature, landscape, water, wildlife, plants or fungi, and climate.

The judging panel will include Peterson plus photographers and documentary filmmakers like Ami Vitale, Brian Adams, Smita Sharma, and Luciano Candisani, along with TNC staff.

“Michigan is home to some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world, from fall foliage in the Upper Peninsula to picturesque lakeside sunsets and sunlit forests,” said TNC Michigan’s state director Helen Taylor in a news release. “We’re encouraging professional and amateur photographers in the Great Lakes State to submit their photos and show the world why Michigan is an outdoor lover’s dream.”

A submission by Stephen Carmickle from the TNC Photo Contest 2021. Freezer // I titled this photo "Freezer" because being surrounded by walls of ice felt much like being inside of a freezer, though I can only imagine what that actually feels like. Every year an impressive ice shelf forms along the shoreline of Lake Michigan, the walls often reaching over 10ft tall and stretching hundreds of feet into the lake. I stumbled upon this cave in a small inlet within the shelf.

Here’s what you could win:

Grand Prize Winner: A trip to Punta del Este, Uruguay for an Extreme E-Race

Guest Judge Choice Award: Camera Kit worth $5,0000

Celebrity Award: $2,500 gift card and a virtual meeting with Coyote Peterson

First Place: $750 gift card

Second Place: $500 gift card

More: Final supermoon of the year Thursday followed by the Perseid meteor shower over the weekend

More: $4.5-million 'Mushroom House' in Charlevoix built with stones pulled from Lake Michigan

Entries will be accepted until Aug. 31. There is no submission fee.
