Nationals' Bryce Harper ejected arguing balls and strikes vs. Brewers
Washington Nationals star Bryce Harper was ejected in the eighth inning Wednesday night against the Milwaukee Brewers after arguing balls and strikes with umpire Chris Segal.
Harper was visibly upset with the first strike against him, which was low in the zone but in the zone nevertheless. Then he went chasing after a ball low and away and later swung through a pitch on the inner half to strike out. He immediately turned toward Segal, yelling in his face and slamming his bat into the ground. Segal immediately ejected the Washington slugger, who had to be restrained by teammates.
The at-bat and subsequent ejection came at a key point in the game with runners on the corners and one out in a 2-2 ballgame. Luckily for Harper, his teammates were able to pick him up with a huge two-out rally. By the end of the inning the Nationals, who had started the inning trailing 1-2, were up 8-2. The Nationals went on to win 8-5.
Harper is the only player in the majors to be ejected twice this year, the other dismissal coming after charging the mound against the Giants in May. The ensuing brawl from that game cost Harper three games and Giants pitcher Hunter Strickland six for beaning Harper.
