El Paso is a foodie’s playground and while most people think of the borderland as having some of the best Mexican cuisine, it also has some of the best places to grab a classic meal, the sandwich.

On this National Sandwich Day, which is celebrated every year on Nov. 3 we will look at some of the best places to grab some grub and share some deals.

Jersey Mike’s Subs

Jersey Mike’s Subs first arrived in El Paso in 2019. The chain is known for its fresh sliced and fresh grilled subs. When ordering your sandwich, they'll ask if you want your sandwich Mike’s way which means adding onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a special vinegar sauce to top off your sandwich.

To celebrate National Sandwich Day, Jersey Mike’s Subs is offering free delivery for orders placed through the Jersey Mike’s app.

Locations in El Paso include 6450 North Desert Blvd. in West El Paso and 14011 Pebble Hills Blvd. in far East El Paso. For more locations click here.

Jersey Mike’s is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

McAlister’s Deli

McAlister’s Deli is still new to the El Paso area. The first shop opened at 3260 North Zaragoza Road in 2022. The restaurant features a variety of sandwiches that include a simple ham and cheese melt to the grilled chicken king club. If you’re cutting carbs or calories, there are also some good wraps and specialty salads to stave off your hunger. McAlister’s is also known for its teas and what it calls “giant spuds,” which are just basically baked potatoes. If you do try one of their teas, try the peach flavor.

Some McAlister’s Deli locations are also offering its reward members a buy-one-get-one-free deal during National Sandwich Day.

McAlister’s Deli has two other locations in El Paso. One is located at 12241 Eastlake Blvd. Building G Suite 601 and in West El Paso at 7040 North Mesa St. near Resler Drive.

The restaurant is open every day from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. except on Fridays and Saturdays where it is open until 10 p.m.

New York Gourmet Deli

Another spot is bringing New York-style sandwiches to the Borderland. New York Gourmet Deli opened in late 2022. The shop slices its meat by hand and gives off all the vibes of an authentic New York sub shop.

The chicken parmesan sandwich is a fan favorite among customers. We recommend The Philly cheese steak. The food is filling and will keep you feeling full for a few hours depending on what you get. New York Gourmet Deli is located at 203 East Mills Ave. in Downtown El Paso and on the West Side at 4108 North Mesa St.

National Sandwich Day deals include Jimmy John's

  • Jimmy John's is offering customers $1 off mobile orders on National Sandwich Day.

  • Schlotzky’s restaurant reward members can order a medium sandwich for just $5 on Nov. 3-5.

Earl of Sandwich

Another fairly new sandwich shop in El Paso is Earl of Sandwich. The restaurant opened in far East El Paso in August 2022. Some fan favorites include the chipotle chicken avocado, the holiday turkey and the ham and Swiss cheese sandwich. Pair your sandwich with the tomato soup and add croutons to the soup as well.

Earl of Sandwich is located at 3581 North Zaragoza Road near Edgemere Boulevard. The sandwich shop is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Brown Bag Deli

Brown Bag Deli is located at 4319 Fred Wilson Ave. The sandwich shop offers a variety of items including macaroni, potato salad and of course ... sandwiches.

The specialty subs are filling, and the workers don’t hold back when making your food. You won’t be left feeling hungry, these sandwiches will fill you up.

We recommend roast beef, ham and turkey. The price of the meal isn’t that bad, either. You can feed at least three people for $20. Brown Bag Deli is open daily: Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
