A national sandwich chain with locations throughout Sarasota and Manatee counties recently debuted its latest local shop.

Jersey Mike's Subs is now open at 8382 S. Tamami Trail, Sarasota, in the Pelican Plaza shopping center, joining other businesses there including Sprouts Farmers Market, Total Wine & More and Ulta Beauty.

The chain serves a variety of sub sandwiches with meats and cheeses sliced on the spot, piled high on in-store baked bread, then prepared "Mike's Way" with lettuce, tomato, onion and "the juice," a blend of red wine vinegar and olive oil. It also offers several cheesesteak sandwiches, grilled fresh.

Jersey Mike's is also known for its fundraising efforts for local charities, including an annual Jersey Mike's Month of Giving in March. Franchise owners Frank Czaszynski and Jason Amarosa will celebrate the opening of the new location with a fundraiser benefitting the Sarasota Firefighters Benevolent Fund where, through Thursday, Sept. 28, all customers who bring in a fundraiser flyer or order online with the fundraiser promo code will have 20 percent of their sale donated to the local charity.

According to its website, Jersey Mike's has four other open Sarasota locations, three in Bradenton, and one each in University Park, Venice and North Port. As its name suggests, Jersey Mike's was founded and is now headquartered in New Jersey, starting from a single shop dating back to 1956 in Point Pleasant before expanding to around 2,000 current locations across the United States, as well as Canada and Mexico.

The new Sarasota Jersey Mike's location at 8382 S. Tamami Trail will be open 10 a.m.-9 p.m. daily. Along with in-store, customers can place orders for pickup through Jersey Mike's website or its app, which also offers curbside and delivery ordering, with delivery also available through third-party services.
