There was a lot to talk about after President Donald Trump announced Sunday that a raid has resulted in the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, but Nate Silver was one of the few whose contribution to the discourse got him to trend on Twitter.
The statistician, who is founder editor-in-chief of FiveThirtyEight, wrote on the microblogging platform, “It really amazing how many Libs can’t even permit Trump to have *one good day* (nobody will remember this stuff by Tuesday) after US forces kill perhaps the world’s most wanted terrorist.”

“Libs” is often used pejoratively to refer to liberals and Democrats on social media, so it’s no surprise social media blew up following his tweet, which was immediately screengrabbed and reposted.
“Good to know who Nate Silver really is,” wrote well-known democratic strategist and consultant Adam Parkhomenko. April Reign, a diversity advocate and Sephora equity advisor, wrote, “Remember when many (including me) regarded him as the go-to regarding political polling? Thoughts and prayers or whatever.”
Silver, who was replying to another user’s tweet criticizing Jamie Lee Curtis’ reaction to the raid, did not immediately return a request for comment. At publication time, he was trending #7 nationally, along with, Twitter says, the word “libs.”
