Nate Bargatze is going from Old Hickory to "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!"

The standup comedian is hosting NBC's long-running sketch comedy show "Saturday Night Live" on Oct. 28, with Foo Fighters as the evening's musical guest, according to a post on the show's Instagram page.

The show will be the third in SNL's 49th season, which started Oct. 14 after the end of a writers strike and amid an ongoing Hollywood actors' strike.

"Beyond a dream come true. Thank you!!!" Bargatze wrote in his Instagram account alongside the SNL announcement.

The Old Hickory native has had a banner year in 2023, releasing his latest special, "Nate Bargatze: Hello World," and setting an attendance record at Bridgestone Arena in April.

After growing up in the Nashville suburbs, Bargatze spent time in Chicago before moving to New York in 2004, where he worked his way up through the standup scene for 10 years, leading to TV commercial work and a spot on Jimmy Fallon's "Tonight Show."

In the past five years, his career skyrocketed thanks to a string of comedy specials for Netflix and Amazon.

“I remember I did some jokes, and then they didn't hit as much as they usually do,” Bargatze recalled in a Tennessean interview. That was because his audience had already heard them.

“I was like, ‘Wait, are you all here, like, because of me?’ They're like, ‘Yeah.’ lt was the first sign of panic, where you're like, 'Oh, I gotta write new material. People are coming.'”

Bargatze started with sketch comedy when he moved to Chicago in 2002 and enrolled in classes with The Second City improv comedy troupe, from which SNL has often drawn cast members.

He will host what will likely be the show's Halloween episode, featuring holiday-specific sketches and performances.
