Natasha Bedingfield believes her son's brain surgery and hospitalisation gave her and her family a "head start" on the coronavirus pandemic.

Last December, two-year-old Solomon underwent surgery following a brain infection meaning his loved ones had to wear face masks around him for five weeks as he recovered.

"We have a unique experience because we were in the hospital just two months before COVID because Solo had a brain abscess and had to have some surgeries," she explained to People.

"He's completely recovered now, but we spent a whole five weeks in a tiny little hospital room wearing masks, so we kind of got a head start on what everyone's going through."

Bedingfield shares Solomon, who was born in November 2017, with her husband Matt Robinson.

She went on to say the medics at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles "actually saved our son's life".

The Unwritten singer also added she was feeling "grateful" despite her son currently going through the "terrible twos".

The 38-year-old told fans she was “gutted” back in December when it was discovered that Solomon would require more surgery after his initial operation.

The singer explained she had to leave her son’s side to do a “quick show” in Las Vegas.

She wrote: “I’m actually on a plane to Vegas tonight to do a quick show I was committed to and then come back in time for the the surgery . Love u guys . Life is crazy . This is the real rock and roll.”
