Natalie Morales joins Kyle Meredith to talk about her role in Jake Johnson’s Hulu film Self Reliance, which follows a man faced with the opportunity to win a large sum of cash if he can survive a dark web reality game show. Listen to the new episode above, and don’t forget to like, review, and subscribe to KMW wherever you get your podcasts.

Morales, who plays Johnson’s ex-girlfriend in the film, discusses the wide range of genres Self Reliance takes from, as well as her friendship with the writer/director/star. She also teases her next film, My Dead Friend Zoe, which is executive produced by football star (and Taylor Swift beau) Travis Kelce.

The Parks and Recreation actress further discusses her work behind the camera, including how music was one of the primary driving components of her film Plan B. Morales then digs into how she feels millennials like herself haven’t gotten enough opportunity to direct, citing Everything Everywhere All at Once directors The Daniels as proof that, contrary to what some may think, there’s an audience for Millennial-created media.

“When I think about directors that I really admire, there’s not that many from my generation. They’re Gen X and above, because my generation hasn’t really been given that much opportunity.” she explains. “I can’t tell you how many ideas I’ve had when I’ve directed or written that have been shot down by Gen X producers or older producers who just don’t understand a millennial joke.”
