Charles Esten will never forget the day he won his wife’s engagement ring.

The Outer Banks star, 58, was reminiscing on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday about his first big break in Hollywood where he recalled his appearance on a 1988 game show.

“I’d been in L.A. for 3 months and I was already out of money when I found an ad looking for contestants for SALE OF THE CENTURY,” he wrote.

“Long story short: I got on, and 5 days later walked away with $34K in cash and prizes that included the engagement ring that my wife wears on her finger today.”

He added: “None of that happens without this lucky speed round!”

Along with the post was a video of a video of his “very first TV role,” showing him — under the name “Chip” — correctly answering a rapid series of questions. After 60 seconds, Esten won by 3 points and grinned as the crowd applauded.

Below the video read: “Completely broke L.A. actor who desperately needed to win this speed round.”

Hansen and Esten have been married for over 30 years now. In April 2023, they walked the red carpet of the CMT Awards hand-in-hand, months before the actor announced his latest album “Love Ain’t Pretty.”

In August 2023, the Nashville alum told PEOPLE that his role as songwriter and guitarist Deacon Claybourne on the hit show inspired to pursue his passion for music.

"Music was always my first love and I never stopped playing it and I never stopped writing it. But the character of Deacon Claybourne opened up this opportunity to jump back in and I did fully and instantly,” he said.
