‘Nashville’ Season Premiere Gets Sneak Peek on Dec. 15 on CMT, New Trailer

“Nashville” Season 5 will have its two-hour premiere on its new network on Jan. 5 at 9/8c, but to satiate any pent-up demand from “Nashville” fans who’ve been jonesing for the new stuff, CMT will be airing the first hour of the premiere on Dec. 15 at 9/8c. For those without a pay TV subscription, the first hour of the premiere will be available on Hulu the next day, just as the streaming service will be home to all new “Nashville” episodes the day after air.

To go along with the sneak peek, CMT has also released the first official trailer for the new season, which you can check out above. The new footage kicks in toward the end, with two pairs of new-old lovers arguing over telling their stories through song. Per CMT, Season 5 begins with Rayna (Connie Britton) and Deacon (Charles Esten) facing a new normal — daughter Maddie (Lennon Stella) is now back home, and Highway 65 is experiencing serious financial difficulties. The shocking news about Juliette’s plane going missing quickly spreads through Nashville, setting off an emotional maelstrom in the community and setting Rayna on a journey of discovery.

“Nashville” was canceled by ABC after its fourth season in May, only to be picked up a month later by CMT, which is leaning hard into scripted originals. Produced by Lionsgate, ABC Studios and Opry Entertainment, production is currently underway in Nashville. The series is executive produced by Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick (the creators of “Thirtysomething”), Steve Buchanan and Callie Khouri. Jayson Dinsmore and Morgan Selzer executive produce for CMT.
