Naomie Harris in Talks to Join Tom Hardy in ‘Venom 2’ as Villain Shriek

Naomie Harris is in talks to join the cast of Sony’s “Venom 2” opposite star Tom Hardy as one of the film’s villains, Shriek, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

Shriek is the love interest of the villain known as Carnage, who was teased at the end of the original “Venom” in a cameo by Woody Harrelson. Harrelson’s casting has not been confirmed, but there’s speculation that the actor will return to play the main villain. If Harris’s deal closes as Shriek, she’ll play an additional villain in the film. Michelle Williams is also expected to return as a co-star.

Andy Serkis is directing the new film, and Kelly Marcel is writing the script. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, and Hutch Parker.

Sony had no comment.

Ruben Fleischer directed last year’s “Venom” that followed Eddie Brock and how he became infected with the alien, symbiotic organism that transformed him into the creature Venom. The film was a surprise hit for an October release, setting a record for an October opening weekend of $80.2 million, a total that was broken this year by “Joker.” It ultimately grossed $856 million worldwide.

Harris, an Oscar-nominee for “Moonlight,” is currently starring in the cop thriller “Black and Blue,” which opens next weekend, and she has “No Time to Die,” the 25th James Bond film, on the horizon next spring. She’s currently shooting the HBO and Sky series “The Third Day” opposite Jude Law. Harris is repped by Untitled, WME and Artists Partnership.

Variety first reported the news of Harris’s casting.
