Naomi Watts Reveals the Cute Reason Why She Had a No-Frills Wedding With Billy Crudup

Naomi Watts and Billy Crudup might be one of Hollywood’s cutest couples, and their 2023 wedding is evidence of that. The acting duo, who decided on a New York courthouse wedding last June, had a very specific reason why they chose such a low-key event to say, “I do.”

The 55-year-old actress explained on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon exactly why they decided that a small ceremony was the right thing for them. “It just happened that way,” she gushed. “We knew we wanted to do it, it was something we were very keen on doing and quickly. It’s an efficient way to do it.” Fallon was blown-away by Watts’ casual approach to their wedding day, but he was clearly impressed, calling their wedding snapshot on the courthouse steps “iconic.”

She jokingly told him how easy it was to get married on a whim, “Just make an appointment, you can just go online.” But just because it wasn’t a ceremony that was planned for over a year with hundreds of A-list friends in attendance does not make it any less moving. Watts shared, “It was really lovely. It was a classic New York day. You ran into all kinds of people, some were dressed to the nines, some were walking quickly in and out. It was very special and very memorable.”

Watts looked stunning on her wedding day wearing a $7,400 white Oscar de la Renta Sweetheart Water Lilly Guipure dress while Crudup wore a navy-blue suit, a crisp white shirt, and a lily boutonniere to match the lily-print lace on her gown. So cute! The couple kept most of their relationship off the radar while they were dating, but they’ve been more open about their love for each other after the wedding.

Watts met The Morning Show star on the set of the Netflix show, Gypsy, where they played husband and wife — the series predicted their future nuptials! Watts previously was with Liev Schreiber for 11 years and they share two children, Sasha, 16, and Kai, 15. Crudup shares son William Atticus Parker, 20, from his relationship with Mary-Louise Parker.
