Naomi Osaka is the definition of booked and busy. Days after announcing an upcoming swimwear collection, the tennis champion also announced she’s stepping into skin care. And now, Osaka’s skin care brand, Kinló, is here.
If you didn’t know, Osaka is of Japanese and Haitian descent. “Kin” means “gold” in Japanese, and “ló” means “gold” in Haitian Creole. Her brand is a line of sun and skin care specifically formulated to meet the needs of darker-skinned people.
“What drew me towards this project is having memories of being a kid and not knowing how to protect my skin,” Osaka told the Business of Fashion. “I only started wearing sunscreen recently.”
The line includes items such as tinted face lotions, recovery lip balms, body sprays and eye creams. Each individual product is under $20.
“For me, this project is something that requires more than just being a spokesperson,” Osaka told the publication. “This is a public health need. I used to tell people that I didn’t need to wear sunscreen — but even if you have melanin, you need to take care of your skin, and I am passionate about that.”
