Nancy Pelosi responds to President Trump's tweet: 'A master at projection'

At a CNN town hall Thursday night, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi clapped back at President Donald Trump after he took to Twitter following a press conference in which she announced the House would be drafting articles of impeachment against the president.

As Pelosi was walking off stage, a reporter asked her if she hates Trump. Pelosi responded, “As a Catholic, I resent your using the word ‘hate’ in a sentence that addresses me. I don’t hate anyone. I was raised in a way that was full … a heart full of love and always pray for the president. And I still pray for the president. I pray for the president all the time.”

Trump wasn’t buying it.

In response, Pelosi said, “The president is a master at projecting. When he calls somebody else nervous, he’s the nervous one. When he suspects that somebody’s not praying, he’s probably not praying.”

And Pelosi doubled down on her claim to pray for Trump.

“I do pray for him because he’s the president of the United States,” Pelosi said, “and I pray that God will open his heart to meeting the needs of people in our country.”

Pelosi said she prays for Trump to open his heart to those in danger of losing food stamps, she prays for those in the DACA program in danger of losing their protected status if Trump is successful in ending the program, and for the children sitting in cages who have been separated from their families at the southern border. And whether Trump believes it or not, Pelosi said she prays for the first family.

“I pray for his health and for his safety, and for his family. I do, all the time,” Pelosi said. “But, doesn’t bother me what he thinks about that. All the more reason to pray for him.”
