STAUNTON — Fairland Ferguson, a Staunton native who now lives in Greensboro, North Carolina, was on the latest season of the The Discovery Channel's "Naked and Afraid."

The reality television show places two strangers, without clothes, in extreme environments. The two are given no food or water and must survive for 21 days. Ferguson was in Colombia, South America.

Her partner couldn't make it the entire time, leaving Ferguson alone in the jungle. She called that "soul sucking." She lost 40 pounds in 21 days. The vegan struggled to find food and, when she finally did, it made her very sick. It was tough for her to pick a "worst night" because so many were terrible.

The News Leader talked with Ferguson Monday, a day after the episode premiered. Check out the interview and read the preview story we wrote on Ferguson in January.
