After a 2022 that saw him fighting a doping conviction that stripped his 2022 Tour de France results, there was much speculation that Nairo Quintana would retire.

It turns out, his plan is the opposite. Quintana will not, in fact, retire from professional cycling just yet. He announced at a press conference on Wednesday, that despite currently being without a team he has plans to race in 2023.

Quintana was stripped of his sixth place finish at the 2022 Tour de France after testing positive for banned painkiller Tramadol. He appealed his disqualification before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but the court dismissed his case. Since then, he has been unable to find a new team for the 2023 season.

His contract with Arkéa-Samsic expired after this past season, and he is searching for a new team for the 2023 season.

He has had a decorated professional career. Quintana won the Giro d’Italia in 2014 and the Vuelta a España in 2016. He finished second in the general classification twice at the Tour de France and third in 2016. He won three career stages at the Tour de France and won the white jersey for “best young rider” in 2013 and 2015.
