TikTok divided over nail tech's DIY acrylics made out of onions: 'Can we not make this a thing?'

A nail technician’s TikTok account has gone viral after she accepted a challenge to make acrylic nails out of food.

User @ilysmnails was already racking up hundreds of thousands of views on her videos showcasing her manicure process, but then she decided to up the ante.

In late January, she uploaded a video titled “Pasta Nail Hack,” in which she shaped acrylic nails out of penne pasta. The clip racked up over 14 million views and her follow-up TikTok — showing the nail removal process — reached almost 26 million views.

“I only do these types of videos so I can read the comments,” @ilsymnails commented on the pasta video. “You guys are so funny.”

But @ilsymnails isn’t just limited to food. Since the penne pasta video, she has used electrical cords, crayons, rose petals and even lightbulbs to create original nail looks.

What really caught users’ attention, though, was her response to a commenter’s request that she make nails out of onion peels. That clip, posted five days ago, has over 30 million views.

TikTok seemed split in the comments section.

“Can we not make this a thing pls,” one user commented.

“But it’s a pretty color though,” another pointed out.

“This made me mad,” another wrote.
