Mysterious light behind Fenway Park wall halted play during ALCS Game 5

Given the recent checkered history of the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox, conspiracy theories can easily sprout from even the most innocuous circumstances.

During Wednesday night's Game 5 of the American League Championship Series, umpires stopped play before the start of the bottom of the fifth inning and started pointing toward the outfield – where a bright light could be seen coming through the outfield wall.

At that point in the game, the Astros had a 1-0 lead and starter Framber Valdez had not allowed a single baserunner through the first four innings.

After a slight delay, the light disappeared and play resumed.

It seems that the light was coming from Fenway Park's Bleacher Bar, located behind the wall in center field.

WFXT reporter Wale Aliyu, who was covering the game from the bar, said that another station's lighting equipment – pointing towards the field from within the bar – was the culprit.

"There was something in the wall in center field. It looked like a light or whatever. Somebody noticed it in the dugout," Red Sox manager Alex Cora said after the game.

"It wasn't a big deal, but just to let them know that that was there. I don't know if the hitter was able to see it, whatever."
