Before be made the move to country music with his 2023 Whitsitt Chapel album, Jelly Roll's career focused on hip hop.

But he explained why he moved to a different genre during a 2022 interview with Loudwire Nights host, Toni Gonzalez. Jelly Roll grew up in a larger family, which allowed him to experience a strong variety of music, something he also attributes to his ability to transition between genres, the release states.
